Apricity lays nestled in the vast Boreal Forest of Alaska. With 400+ bird species calling Alaska their full or part-time home, a birding visit to Alaska is sure to add species to your life list.
In the boreal forest, few bird species are hardy enough to endure the winter. But something magical happens in the spring as thousands of birds migrate North to Alaska to breed. The forests come alive with song as ducks babble in our creeks, thrushes buzz among treetops, and sandhill cranes fly in formation overhead– all here to take part in the brief, majestic flash of summer. Come fall, the process repeats in reverse as hundreds of species partake in astonishing migratory journeys.
At Apricity, we have the luxury of exploring large swaths of completely untouched country– tundra, mountain foothills, creek bottom, bogs, and alpine lakes– in search of new birds to add to our life lists.
Take off early in the morning down the trail with binoculars, a hot drink, and a snack to your guide’s favorite birding destinations– and help discover new ones! Keep your eyes and ears open, all the while learning about the native plants, insects, and mammals that also call this remote outpost home. As you walk through black spruce forests, listen for Black-backed and Three-toed Woodpeckers peeling bark off of trees. Stop to fill your water bottle on our creeks, and enjoy the sight of the American Dipper diving into rushing water. After a morning of birding, return to the homestead to a hearty, hot brunch. Relax around the homestead before heading out to a different location for evening birding.
Bird adventures are based out of our remote homestead and are custom designed to your wants and abilities. A great variety of bird habitats are accessible within a mile from the homestead. For the more adventurous overnight trips away from the homestead can be arranged to access more varied habitats.
