Grand Alaska Range Pack Trip
Ride through a vast swathe of the Alaska Range pioneering a route on sturdy gaited Icelandic horses. This trip is for experienced riders preferably with previous pack trip/camping/wilderness experience. Expect to cover 120+ miles over two weeks through varied mountain terrain and vast, empty river valleys. Mostly off trail, this trip would be the culmination of an equestrian career. This epic adventure begins at the homestead and circumnavigates the extremely remote Trimokish mountains that make up the northwestern prow of the Great Alaska Range. This is nominally a two week trip, though it could be organized as a one way (8-9 days) for those on a tighter schedule. Numerous small river crossings, mountain terrain and ample wildlife (including bison) viewing opportunity make for an epic adventure. You wont find a trip like this anywhere else. The combination of gaited horses, true Alaska wilderness, towering mountains and a local guide make this a bonafide trip of a lifetime. Offered only once a year in late July or August. Maximum rider weight 190lbs.
