Where will I be staying?
Accommodations at Apricity are rustic but comfortable. While at the homestead, guests stay in framed glamping style wall tents. These are equipped with a wood stove, comfortable bed, and wash basins. The wall tents all have mountain views.
There is limited running water here. All water is filtered from our pristine mountain creeks or the well. Warm showers are provided in the greenhouse and the cold creek on hot days.
When going on overnight trips, you will stay in one of our expedition tents. We provide sleeping pads and can provide sleeping bags on request.
Where are you Located?
The homestead is located on the Western side of the Alaska Range in the Big River Valley. The nearest town is 70 air miles away, and the nearest road about 150 miles away. Many operations claim to be in the Alaskan wilderness but are still accessible by the road system. Apricity Alaska is undoubtedly in the middle of raw, true wilderness.
What kind of wildlife lives in the area?
Since we are in such a pristine area, sightings of wildlife are frequent. We have the privilege of sharing our home and the surrounding mountains with the iconic grizzly and black bear, moose, wolves, Dall sheep, and caribou. Other species that you may see include river otter, wolverine, marten, beaver, fox, lynx, ground squirrel, marmot, pika, and ermine- many of the species found at Denali National Park.
Oh- and don’t forget the countless bird species migrating through the area and the fish species in our creeks!
How many guests do you take at a time?
Three riding guests and up to four guests total can be comfortably accomodated, more are possible as well, please inquire for your specific case.
When you book with us at Apricity, your party has the run of the Homestead. We believe in one on one guiding in order to tailor your bush Alaska experience to your needs.
Is there cell phone service? Internet?
There is no cell phone service here. You are far, far away from the nearest cell tower. Take advantage of this rare opportunity– indulge and unplug!
Limited internet access is available in our home in the case of emergency. If you or your party’s decision to visit us hinges on some internet accessibility, contact us and we can make the proper arrangements. Bandwidth is very limited in our neck of the woods!
We encourage you to plug into the natural world around you and believe that technology can be a hindrance to true appreciation and immersion in your surroundings.
Are there baggage weight restrictions?
Weight is always a factor when traveling by small airplane. In most cases, there is a 50lb baggage weight limit per person. Excess baggage can often be securely left with air charter services.
What about Food? Alcohol?
We love to cook! Meals are prepared in our screened in summer kitchen or an open fire. You are welcome to request your favorite dishes!
Apricity is a BYOB establishment. Please plan ahead and bring all of the alcohol you will need during your stay. Remember, there is no liquor store for at least 70 miles and no road to get there.
Can you accommodate special diets?
We are able to accommodate some special diets. Everything out here, including meal planning, requires a great deal of advance planning. Please ask us prior to your booking if we can accommodate your special diet.
What is the weather like?
Interior Alaska is known to have warmer summers and colder winters than the coastal areas of the state. Here at Apricity, summer temperatures can reach into the 90s during the day. Nighttime temperatures can dip below freezing in late August and September. Inclement weather is always a possibility, so come prepared with rain gear. Living so embedded in the landscape requires flexibility and respect for the weather. It shapes our day to day life and that of our visitors.
